About The Alpine Inn
Alpine Inn is located at an elevation of 3,2000-ft on the side of Grassy Mountain along NC State Highway 226-A near the border between Mitchell and McDowell counties, and exactly one mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are 12 charming, comfortable rooms, all with private bathrooms, including one with a clawfoot bathtub. Eight of the rooms have balconies that open up to stunning panorama vistas. The Inn is close to Mount Mitchell State Park (highest mountain in Eastern America), Grandfather Mountain, and Linville Falls.
Alpine Inn has 12 individual rooms, some of them with adjoining doors, which is perfect for families and friends traveling together. We have rooms with two double beds, and rooms with a queen bed. Eight of the rooms have balconies, and they all have windows that open to let in mountain air. All the rooms have fans, and a heating unit. They do not have televisions, but each one has free Wifi.
Alpine Inn’s Balcony Building is connected to the main lodge by a walkway. The top floor has rooms 7, 8, 9. The middle floor has rooms 4, 5, 6. Each room has a private balcony on the east side of the building that overlooks the mountains and remains shady & cool in the afternoon and sunset. In the evening, stars fill the sky from one end of the horizon to the other.
Ron & Susan Lough bought the Inn in 2005, and began running it the next spring. Over time, many guests have become friends that return year after year, earning the nickname: Alpiners. In fact, more than 90 percent of guests are returning guests. People who stay here quickly develop a fondness for the Inn. Ron & Susan and their dedicated staff will help make your visit special and memorable.
Your stay at the Alpine Inn begins here in our lobby, which is open 7:30am to 8pm seven days a week. If you need a late check-in, we can accommodate you, no problem. Just let us know ahead of time. This is also where we serve breakfast from 7:30am to 9:00am.
Inside our lobby, we have maps, brochures, books and other info about the area, and an oak dining table with six chairs that’s available for guests to use. And as the 100.0 health score indicates, we are very serious about cleanliness.
The thing Alpine Inn is best known for is the incredible view from its balconies. Whether you’re sitting outside having breakfast in the morning, or enjoying a bottle of wine in the evening, the mountains in the distance are an amazing sight.
We have a large covered picnic table, gas grill, charcoal grill, swing, chairs, and a firepit chiminea, all available for guests to use at no extra charge. On many nights, we build a fire and invite everyone to join us. There’s a comfortable cushioned swing and wooden Adirondack chairs. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy an evening fire in the mountains.
Inside the guest lounge, there’s a television with satellite reception, DVDs, games, books, and a telescope. There’s also a self-serve snack area with chips, candy, soup, and a small refrigerator with cold drinks, coffee-maker, and microwave.
